There are countless apps on the internet that assist us with prayer time notifications and qibla direction. One of the best apps in this category, based on my personal experience as a user since 4 years is the ‘Athan’ app built by Islamicfinder.org.
Not only does this app provide accurate prayer times and Qibla direction, but it also enables prayer tracking and provides daily duas, Islamic knowledge, information on Islamic events and Qur’an translation and transliteration.
The makers are constantly updating the Athan app with new and innovative features. For example, it enables us to convert Hijri calendar to Gregorian and vice versa, through the Islamic Date converter. It also has useful tools like PrayerBook to help users track their prayer performance, Holy Quran for Qur’an recitation, Dua for supplications, Mosque Finder to find the nearest mosques, Qibla indicator to find accurate qibla direction and Calendar to track Islamic events.
Having personally used the Athan app across my short/long stays in 4 different countries in South Asia, the Middle East and Europe, I can say that the prayer timings on the Athan app are either accurate or close to accurate, with very minor variations. Also, in some places, the Qibla direction has sometimes shown a minor error. It is better to double-check the Qibla direction ascertained on the basis of this app. The makers claim that the app sometimes gives incorrect prayer times when the settings on your phone are wrong. They recommend using auto settings to get the most accurate prayer times for your location.
